Eclipse Glasses USA Makes Significant Eclipse Glasses Donation to UH Institute for Astronomy
HAWAII, USA. 6th May, 2024 - Eclipse Glasses USA, a leading provider of ISO-certified solar eclipse glasses, is thrilled to announce its donation to the University of Hawaiʻi’s Institute for Astronomy (IfA) aimed at enhancing public engagement in astronomy. The family-owned company donated 2,000 pairs of solar eclipse glasses to IfA in an effort to support the astronomy department’s annual AstroDay, which occurred on May 4th, 2024.

This donation highlights Eclipse Glasses USA’s ongoing commitment to astronomy education and public safety during celestial events. The company’s robust donation program has gained international attention following their Eclipse Give Back donation drive following the total solar eclipse on April 8th, which gathered over 500,000 pairs of used eclipse glasses to donate to schools in South America for the October 2024 Annular eclipse, underscoring their role in fostering an educated and engaged public ready to safely enjoy solar phenomena.

"We are grateful to UH for allowing us to donate these eclipse glasses. Our family wants to ensure that the public can safely view solar phenomena, including the upcoming annular eclipse in October, with certifiably ISO compliant eclipse glasses," said Roger Sarkis, owner of Eclipse Glasses USA.

The UH Institute for Astronomy is committed to astronomy education and helping our community explore the wonders of the universe,” said Doug Simons, director at IfA. “Eclipse Glasses USA’s donation helped enrich the AstroDay experience for everyone from keiki to kūpuna."

The timing of this donation is particularly significant as Hawaii prepares for the upcoming annular eclipse in October of 2024, which will offer a breathtaking sunrise partial eclipse to residents and visitors alike. The glasses provided by Eclipse Glasses USA will ensure that everyone can witness this rare event safely and the company has allocated thousands more eclipse glasses for donation purposes. Nonprofit organizations and K-12 schools throughout the islands that are interested in hosting eclipse-viewing events in October are invited to email info@eclipse23.com for donation requests. The company encourages these requests be made as soon as possible.
