Omnitronics Expands Radio Interoperability Portfolio with New Gateway Options for Kenwood Radios
WA, AUSTRALIA. September 11th 2025 - Omnitronics, a global leader in vendor-agnostic radio interoperability and dispatch solutions, has announced a significant expansion to its portfolio with new integration capabilities for Kenwood radios and networks. This development reinforces the company’s commitment to enabling seamless communication across diverse radio systems, regardless of manufacturer.

The latest firmware release for the award-winning Omnitronics DRG100 Digital Radio Gateway introduces serial integration support for the Kenwood NX-5000 series mobile radios. These radios operate across multiple modes including DMR Tier 2 Conventional, NXDN Conventional, and Analog, offering users enhanced flexibility in their communications infrastructure.

In addition to mobile radio support, the DRG100 AIS firmware has been successfully tested with the Kenwood NXR1000 repeater in DMR Tier 2 Conventional mode, as well as the Kenwood KTI-2500 system, which operates in a unique DMR ‘Tier 2.5’ configuration. Omnitronics has also confirmed that an interface to Kenwood’s NXIP Gen1 protocol is currently in development and will be available soon.

Official interoperability testing was conducted at the Kenwood Test Lab in Dallas, Texas in June, validating the functionality of the DRG100 across all supported protocols. These tests confirm that users can now reliably integrate Kenwood radios into the Omnitronics ecosystem, enabling both dispatch and cross-network communication.

This expanded capability allows organizations to connect Kenwood NX-5000 radios not only to Omnitronics’ suite of dispatch management solutions but also to other vendor networks. Whether used as a transitional tool during network migration or as a permanent interoperability solution, the DRG100 offers unmatched versatility.

John Jordan, CEO of Omnitronics, commented on the milestone: “At Omnitronics, we’re proud to continue leading the way in vendor-agnostic radio interoperability. The expansion of our DRG100 Digital Radio Gateway to support Kenwood NX-5000 series and other key models marks a significant milestone in our commitment to seamless communication across diverse radio networks. This integration empowers our customers with greater flexibility, reliability, and futureproofing for their mission-critical operations. We’re excited about the possibilities this opens up for organizations using Kenwood radios, and we remain dedicated to delivering innovative, interoperable solutions that connect people when it matters most.”
