Real or AI? New Research Shows 35% of Americans Can’t Tell the Difference
London, UK, 22nd February 2022 - As AI-generation software gets better, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between what’s real and what’s fake. Can the public tell which famous landmark is real and which is AI-generated?

Concured, a unique AI-powered content recommendation system, put the general public’s knowledge and polled 1,000 Americans to find out if AI can create an image that looks real. And what better way to test it than on famous landmarks that we all know so well?

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant advancements in the ability to generate realistic images, making it much harder to distinguish between images created by AI and those captured by real-life cameras.

Recent studies have shown that AI-generated images can be almost indistinguishable from actual photographs, contributing to a growing interest in using AI in the fields of photography and digital art.

The Concured poll supports this, as nearly a third of people couldn’t recognise the real Eiffel Tower, half believed the AI grand canyon was genuine, and over a third of Americans were fooled into thinking that all the AI-generated images were their real counterparts.

AI will transform content and marketing. It is already automating complex tasks, personalizing experiences, and providing data-driven insights, leading to increased efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability.

With 35% of Americans already being unable to differentiate between authentic and AI images, it already underlines the power of AI and the difficulty to detect AI created content," Said Tom Salvat, Founder and CEO, Concured.

One of the key advantages of AI-generated images is the ability to quickly create a large number of unique images, which can be useful in industries such as advertising and e-commerce.

It is, however, important to note that AI-generated images are not yet perfect and there are still differences between them and real images. In some cases, AI-generated images can appear to be slightly blurred or pixelated, and they may not have the same level of detail as real photographs.
