At the heart of the story is Leah Walsh, a working mother and council clerk who becomes the respected “Guvnor” of her local fire crew when disaster strikes. Faced with a wave of twelve suspicious fires, Leah must balance personal sacrifice and political manoeuvring to keep her team safe. Each incident serves as a crucible, testing loyalty, leadership and the bonds that hold the station together under extreme pressure.
Twelve Doors stands out for its richly drawn characters and modern themes. Readers meet Jamie, a gay firefighter whose determination to live openly challenges stereotypes and inspires his colleagues, and Zaid, a British Muslim father who balances faith and duty while confronting prejudice inside and outside the station. Through these diverse voices the novel explores issues of belonging, justice and the true cost of courage in a close-knit community.
Before turning to fiction, Les Jones built a distinguished career in emergency services. He joined a chemical plant fire brigade in 1980 at age 20, earned professional accreditation through the Institute of Fire Engineers and completed advanced training at the Fire Service College in Gloucestershire.
In 1996 Jones joined the police service, where he served in both uniform roles and plain-clothes detective work for twenty years. His first-hand insight informs every detail of Twelve Doors, from command protocols to on-scene tactics.

Complementing the novel is the original song Mobilise by Karl Joseph, written after reading Twelve Doors and featuring two official music videos on YouTube.
The track captures the urgency and solidarity of the firefighting community, offering fans a powerful audio-visual extension of the narrative. Karl Joseph’s anthem underscores the novel’s themes of unity, sacrifice and resilience in the face of danger.
