Spain-Based Research Laboratory Recognizes Excellence in Responsible AI, Business Analytics and Intelligent Industry
MADRID, SPAIN. July 29th, 2026 – The European Institute of Materials, AI and Technology Lab (EIMATEL), a Spain-based research laboratory affiliated with Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, has named Md Shakil Islam, Md Mostafizur Rahman and Md Sanjid Khan its Research Assistants of the Month. The recognition celebrates three researchers who combine technical expertise with a commitment to solving practical problems through responsible innovation.
Md Shakil Islam: Protecting Trust in AI
Md Shakil Islam works across business analytics, financial information systems, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and privacy-preserving technologies. His scholarly work has received more than 222 citations.
His expertise became especially valuable when an internal EIMATEL AI prototype showed signs of reproducing sensitive financial information from its training data. Islam helped the team review the model’s data lifecycle and introduce stronger anonymization, access controls, privacy testing and human oversight.
His contribution helped secure the system, strengthen EIMATEL’s responsible-AI framework and restore confidence in the research process.
“Shakil combines technical knowledge with a genuine sense of responsibility,” said Dr. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Sánchez, EIMATEL Board Director and Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Salamanca, Spain. “He understands that behind every dataset is a person or institution whose trust must be protected.”
Md Mostafizur Rahman and Md Sanjid Khan: Advancing AI Research, Intellectual Property and Supply-Chain Innovation
Md Mostafizur Rahman specializes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, fraud detection, predictive analytics and business intelligence. His research has received more than 255 citations, while his experience spans banking, telecommunications, procurement and property-preservation analytics.
Md Sanjid Khan focuses on industrial automation, predictive quality control, cyber-physical systems and AI-enabled manufacturing. His research has earned more than 189 citations and an h-index of 7.
At EIMATEL, Rahman and Khan contributed to an original research-based project involving Canadian intellectual-property design patent and copyright registration. Their work supported its technical development, documentation and formal copyright protection in Canada.
They are also collaborating on “A Hybrid AI–Optimization Approach for Disruption-Resilient Multi-Echelon Supply Chains under Demand Uncertainty,” currently under peer review at Scientific Reports. The study combines artificial intelligence and mathematical optimization to improve inventory planning, resource allocation and supply-chain responses to disruption.
The projects were developed under the supervision of Prof. Haewon Byeon.
“Mostafizur and Sanjid have shown remarkable discipline, creativity and intellectual maturity,” Prof. Byeon said. “Their teamwork, academic rigor and commitment to protecting original ideas reflect their strong potential in AI-driven decision-making and resilient supply-chain research.”
Together, the three researchers represent EIMATEL’s commitment to responsible, practical and impactful innovation.
Three talents. Three journeys. One shared vision for meaningful innovation.
