Charity hopes to raise thousands in celebrity shoe sale

A charity has launched the biggest ever celebrity auction involving more than 100 pairs of signed SHOES.

Small Steps has spent the last year gathering signed celebrity shoes and have received donations from stars like Natalie Portman, Usain Bolt and even Ricky Gervais.

The north London-based charity, who help children and their families living on rubbish dumps in the Third World, hope to raise more than #50,000 during the three-week long web auction – and even managed to secure signed shoes from the One Direction boys.

Director Rebecca Crombleholme said: “This is the fifth year we have done it now, and it’s grown and grown.

“I think we have more celebrity donors now than Children in Need and Comic Relief combined.

“We want to thank all our generous donors, without whom we couldn’t have done it.

“We really hope we can make a difference with this sale.”

The charity got various celebrities to sign and then send them a pair of their shoes, which range from a scruffy pair of slippers owned by Art Garfunkel to a stunning pair of nearly-new Christian Dior shoes worn by Natalie Portman.

She said: “I wore these shoes a few years ago for a Dior commercial directed by Sofia Coppola.

“I made everyone laugh by running so poorly in these high heels.

“Hopefully they will bring someone a new smile too.

“It’s a privilege to be able to pass them along to Small Steps’ annual auction to raise money for children living in poverty.”

Generous Ricky Gervais signed a pair of his almost-new blue New Balance running shoes.

The Office comic said: “These shoes have run around New York, London and Los Angeles.

“One careful owner.”

One Direction, the biggest boyband in the world, managed to take time out of their busy schedule to sign and donate some of their trainers, also revealing their shoe size.

Niall Horan sent in a small pair of size 8 Converse, while Liam Payne donated a pair of size 8.5 Nikes.

Louis Thomlinson and Zayn Malik both handed over pairs of their size 9 shoes, while ladies’ man Harry Styles is the biggest of the bunch, and signed a pair of his size 10 trainers.

A charity spokesperson added: “There has been long debate among One Direction fans about who is this ‘biggest.’

“We can reveal it’s Harry Styles.”

The shoes will be split into four separate auctions, and will be hosted on Ebay from Saturday.
